EWAN TELFORD, DIRECTOR

Ewan Telford was born in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Not much is known about him until he moved to New York. On the 5th of May 1998 he entered the film business when he was hired to draw storyboards for a feature film - a date which he would later refer to as "entering the film industry". Offers for further feature film work soon followed, as they did for commercials. Telford was often asked to fully visualise and block scenes for directors that were either too busy with other duties or simply lazy - this provided an excellent background for becoming a director and would come into play later on. His work as an art director and production designer helped to that end as well.

Then Telford took up directing, and rapidly emerged making music videos and television commercials for the European and US International Market Places - to name just a few. Some videos were considered quite good, got played on ‘Top of the Pops’ (the pre-eminent UK pop music TV special) and won awards.

The allure of fighting Tony Kaye and Ridley Scott over dog food and breakfast cereal dimmed in time and led ultimately to an acrimonious parting with the commercials business at a well-known industry “event”. Though this may have been temporary, Telford then telephoned Bradley Warden, who he knew, and suggested they make a film called Apocalypse Oz.

What he says: "Film directing is quite easy - I don't know what all the fuss is about."
